With the 2013 Egg Hunt in the books, read about how it was created

The ROBLOX Egg Hunt 2013 was a smash hit. The final tally of play sessions broke the 3 million mark and the peak concurrent player count was more than 19,000 (shattering the previous single-game mark of around 6,000). In celebration of the event, we published some additional egg-hunting statistics and sat down with the creators of the Egg Hunt to learn about the process of building and launching the game. Turning off bevels and upping ROBLOX’s rendering performance

Next week, we’ll be removing bevels — in basic terms these are the rounded corners of ROBLOX bricks — from ROBLOX’s rendering pipeline. This will not only increase performance, but allow us to focus more energy on implementing new rendering features, including dynamic, voxel-based shadows and lighting. To see before-and-after footage of our upcoming rendering optimizations and new graphics-quality adjustments, and learn more about why we’re making this change, please read this post and provide your feedback.

In 2011, it was the ROBLOX Rally. Last year, it was the ROBLOX Game Conference. This year, we’re taking our show on the road and bringing with us a new name: BLOXcon. BLOXcon will focus not just on games, but building – the core of ROBLOX – and we felt the old name didn’t do the new direction justice.
